Italian Aircraft Carrier to Sail to U.S. in February

The Italian aircraft carrier Cavour, flagship of the Marina Militare, will finally reach Naval Station Norfolk in mid-February. Originally expected to take place in the summer of 2020, the trip was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The goal is for the U.S. Marine Corps to train Cavour’s crew for the operation the F-35B short take-off and landing (STOVL) combat aircraft. As reported by Naval News, the training will last six weeks and allow Italy’s navy to operate its future fleet of 15 F-35Bs.
